What is an air-source heat pump?

An air-source heat pump uses the warmth in the outside air to heat the water used in central heating and the taps. These heat pumps make use of similar technology to that seen in refrigerators but reversed.

They are so efficient at using the warmth in the air that it doesn’t need to be summer for them to work. Even in the winter, the technology is there to take heat from the outside air. This method of heating the home is ideal for properties that are not able to connect to mains gas.

Are air-force heat pumps cheap to run?

There are a few different decisions to make when having an unvented cylinder installed and we are here to help you make the correct ones. First of all, there is the size of cylinder required. If you chose one that is too small, you won’t have sufficient hot water for your household’s needs. But if the unvented cylinder is too large, you will waste energy costs heating more water than needed. Of course, there is also the space – depending on where the cylinder is located, the available space could dictate the maximum size of the cylinder we can fit.

To make sure that you have the right size of unvented boiler fitted, we ask a few questions about your normal water usage and factor in the number of bathrooms or shower rooms you have. Don’t worry – we have years of experience and will be able to guide you.

Is my property suitable for an air-source heat pump?

The pump will need to be fitted to the outside of your property, somewhere secure where it’s not in the way and won’t get broken. It needs a constant, good flow of air too.

As the temperature delivered via an air-source heat pump is lower than conventional heating, your home might need upgrading before it’s a viable product for you. The home must be highly insulated – upgraded windows and doors might be needed. Radiators might need to be switched with underfloor heating working the best.

All of your questions are answered by our team. There is a lot to consider and there are many different costs to factor in that will only apply to some homes and not others.
